I just realized that on too many occasions, I've walked into a gas station only to find two single person bathrooms; one labeled male and the other female. I then have to wait (unnecessarily) for the appropriate bathroom to be available. This makes no sense considering they could both be unisex and cater to anyone.
Now if both bathrooms are meant for two or more people, yes, a gender symbol icon would be necessary.
