The phrase "where are you?" wouldn't have been commonly used until cell phones were invented.

Edit: Several people have correctly pointed out examples where people would have asked "where are you?" before cell phones. I acknowledge that this post would be more accurate if it said the phrase is just much more commonly used nowadays.
